Kurisumala (Wayanad dist) Amazing landscape

On December 12 2004, I visited Kurisumala which is a hill situated very near to the Mysore forest. It is near to the border of Wayanad district. From the top of the montain(I think I can call it a Mountain) on one side we can see the beautiful Assam Brooke tea estate and on the east side we can see mountains which is actually Mysore forest. If we are lucky enough we can see roaming herds of elephant. But its dangerous in the sense, these elephants may some time climb up and reach Kurisumala. The people working in the tea estate will help us to know whether elephants are there currently on the top of Kurisumala

I went there along with my cousin Jose Abins Joseph, who is currently working in MindTree counsulting Pvt ltd, and along with Rajesh P K who is working as a lecturer in computer science of MCA Centre Muttil. Rajesh is staying near to the estate, who had been to this mountain probably more than 1000 times from his childhood.

I have a few photos which are actually reduced in size. If anybody wants the full size photos, mail me.

Clicking on the image will show some more bigger picture

Thirunelli Temple - Wayanad

==>Trip to Thirunelli temple

==>Wayanad

==>Kurisumala

Thirunelli temple is situated in North Wayanad about 30 km away from Mananthavady. Its a place of tourist attraction for a long time. Its a place of charming silent beauty. Another attractions are the Papanasini river and Pakshipathalam.

The people belonging to the Hindu religion do their forefathers "Balikarma" in Papanasini River. Hindus believe that one who baths in this river gets relieved from all sins. The beautiful snowy mountains and the evergreen forest adds to the beaty.

The other attraction Pakshipathalam is a cave situated in the nearby forest to the temple. We should climb up the mountain 2-3 km from the temple to reach this place. No one has went into this deep cave, since its very dark and narrow. The cave is filled with lots of birds and bats. In the language Malayalam a bird is called "Pakshi" and uderground is called "Pathalam". Thus the name "Pakshipathalam" formed.

Nagarhola is a nearby tourist place which is situated in Karnataka state, and is a wild life sanctuary. There we can see animals like elephant, deers, monkeys, bison, pea-cocks, fox, jackals etc.

Sullurpetta

Last week, I visited Sullurpetta which is situated in Andha Pradesh. Its the nearest railway station to Sriharikotta- India's Rocket Launching station(ISRO). There I stayed with my brother Biju and family who is working as a scientist in ISRO.

My Brother And Family

This place is situated very near to the sea. Due to depression it was heavily raining throughout the day. Any way I a managed to see the near by places.

Naidupetta which is 7 km from Sullurpetta is a famous birds sanctuary.

Lots of migrating birds like flemingos visits this place during the months June to January. We can also see birds in the shallow waters on two sides of the way from Sullupetta to ISRO. Now the climate is very nice. But after 3 more months the temperature will rise upto 45-50 degree celcius. At that time its horrible to visit this place

My Bike

Click To Enlarge

I thought of updating the post about my bike, when I posted the first version of this article, my bike was not yet purchased, then I wrote I am about to buy Pulsar 150cc black. Yep, I bought it. I was about to buy the old model pulsar and when I reached the Bajaj auto shop, I was surprised to see the new Pulsar. A lot of changes to the design – magnesium alloy wheels (mag wheels), nitrox (some oxide of nitrogen) shock absorber, and reduced fuel tank capacity of 15 litre compared to the 18 litre of the old model, and doom style head light is not available and so on. I was utter confusion, whether to buy it or not. This was not the bike which I was supposed to buy. At last I made up my mind to take it, yes I bought the black 150 cc Pulsar with alloy wheels and nitrox shock absorbers and all.

Now it is more than 2 and half years since I bought the bike. I went to many long rides. The longest one was Hogennakkal trip which is blogged here. =>Hoggenakkal Trip. The bike traveled around 20000 kilometers by now and still I have not faced with any problems with the bike. The only one competition to the bike was Unicorn. These days, learning from the success of Pulsar every other two wheeler manufactures are trying to model their bike like Pulsar. Yes, by success I mean the number of vehicles sold, you can see pulsar any where. Recently Bajaj came up with new models of Pulsar – the complete black one (I did not like it personally) then the latest one with LED indicators and digital meters. But they have not added anything towards the performance of the vehicle.

Some problem I found with the bike is, even though it is very durable for long rides, the seating arrangement is pretty bad for a long drive, especially for the pillion rider. For long rides, Avenger’s seating arrangement is ultimate. Gear changing is a little bit trouble some when I try to change the gear 3-4 times all of a sudden in emergency situations. The gear slips into some intermediate positions producing some weary sounds. This happens for example when you need to down the gear all of a sudden from fifth to 2nd or 1st. But my experience with the engine made me do it perfectly. Still I can see a design problem of the gear box in it. I don’t think they have eliminated the issue in the new models also.
