The last few days the suggestions by the committee with Retired Justice V R Krishna Iyer as the chair person came flashing in all the news channels and newspapers.
Following are some of the highlights in this bill that came up in the media
You can be imprisoned for impregnating your own wife. Worst, you could be branded as a `legally disqualified person’ for the third child onwards. INR 10,000 or three months simple’ imprisonment deserves to be slapped on the expectant father of a third child
The Kerala Women’s Code Bill 2011 maintains that violation of family norms will be deemed a legal disqualification and parents will not be eligible to receive any benefits from government. It insists on that religious and political outfits should not be allowed to discourage population planning and any such effort on their part should be censured by the governor. The report reads, “No person or institution shall use religion, region, sect, cast, cult or other ulterior inducements for the bearing of more children”.

Here are some thoughts on it.
What about the equal status and rights guaranteed by the constitution for each and every citizen of India which helps to rule out any discriminations based on gender, caste, religion or any factors? Will the government be ready to punish this committee for putting forward an idea which goes against the constitution of India instead of punishing a big daddy?
Why does the committee want anybody, or any group to be punished if they want to express their will against this law? That statement is again contradicting the foundation of Indian constitution right? If any group can make a rule and say that the rule cannot be changed forever, then why should we have democracy, elections, legislative members who can make rules and political parties which are defined as a group of people who comes into power by majority and who tries to implement their views? If any party can make a rule and say that no more rules and they are the rulers forever, is that dictatorship?
Earlier days, government tried to control population by promoting sterilizations by means of gifting people whoever comes forward to accept the procedure. Now government wants to force population control by dictating, no more than one or two kids. Tomorrow who can guarantee that the government will not try to simply kill some people on theory that there are not enough resources for everyone? If population is a problem, why do the governments want to take initiatives for child welfare and actions to control child death rate? If population or the count of human beings is termed as a problem, then should we fear that the government may later silently promote activities that terminate life – I mean any sort of actions that ends in killing fellow beings? If the government says only two kids, will they provide every need for the two human lives till their death? Will this bill silently promote Gender discrimination by means of abortion?
What happened to our principles of sharing the resources? Will you be killing your fellow beings when you feel that you do not have enough resources to share with your brothers and sisters? What is happening to the high morality of our culture which always held humanity high? Ever did your parent asked you not satisfy your hunger just because you are the third or fourth child? Will any one of us be ready to commit suicide because your brothers and sisters do not have enough? If we are not willing to do that, who are we to prevent the life and growth for our own satisfaction?
Hey pity human beings, have you not learned from the example of Hitler who tried to bring up a better race by killing others in extermination camps, gas chambers and all? Instead of spending time with fortune tellers and future predictors why don’t you look back into the history? How many times have you seen civilizations predict the end, the dooms day. How you not learned from the numerous failed scientific predictions that predicted the end of availability of so many things? Have you not seen that the human race succeeded through it?
How many different ways have you tried to increase productions of whatever you consumed, but miserably failed? How many ways have you tried to exterminate mosquitoes and pests and failed miserably? Now are you trying to kill yourself? Don’t you know that “any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall”?

If they wanted to protect the rights of woman, let the govt first provide a safe living environment for women and children in Kerala. Can they ensure safetey? Can they ensure that Soumya's , Shali's , Kathiroor, Sooryanellis wont get repeated in Kerala?
Can they enure that our mothers, sisters, daughters and wifes can travel safely in Kerala ?
Can they ensure that childern are not abused?
Can they ensure that pregnant woman and children are not ending up in mal nutrition?
Can they ensure that abortion is not happening in Kerala?
Can they ensure that no more man drinks alcohol and leave wife and children in starvation repeat?
Can they ensure that children get enough education, irrespective of caste, creed, economic background?
These are what Keralites wanted.
Coming to 2 children policy and its consequences.
This is one of the most ridiculous and injustice part of the bill.
How many of these people who drafted the bill can justify their parents who gave birth to more
than two children?
They may be asking their parents the same Qstns. Will they fine their parents and put them in jail for giving birth to more than two children?
I will not be surprised, if these people come back tomorrow and say that children got birth after the first two should be put in jail or oven killed?
I am the fourth child of my parents, who are these so called respectable people to tell that only two are allowed?
Or this bill is also after protecting drafting committes parents and siblings?
VR Krishaniyar' had six siblings. Can we bring this law pre dated till 1900 and put he/ his parents in jail?
people should recognise their age and background and earn respect for them selvees.
Now, suppose If this law is passed, if the second birth has two or more babies, will these people ask parents to kill the remaining childern?
I will fight till my last breath to protect the freedom of giving birth and upbringing. One Iyer and a bench of 'wise'men cannot destroy that freedom.
This is a non sense bill and seems like age has affected the function of his brain.

Today I read on the newspaper (Manorama) that one of the committee member – Retired Captian Sherina Navas – reveals that this controversial matter never came for any discussion in any of the 4 sittings of the committee where everybody attended. Rt. Captain Sherina Navas also tells that Retired Judge Krishna Iyer will be sending request to the Government to remote this controversial subject from the proposed bill.
ReplyDeleteBut at the same time, under the same news heading there is another inset column which says “Krishna Iyer tells that he will never remove those sections from the bill, and he does not fear any Christian congregations on this matter.
Suresh Gopi’s reaction on this matter came in newspaper in the last few days where he claims that there is a Hidden Agenda behind this bill, and the bill cannot be agreed on any circumstances. Now I also feel that there is some Hidden Agenda behind this bill.

Have you not read the news about some villages in middle part of India where people sell their sisters or niece to some other family to make sure they get another girl as bride on exchange, just because there are no enough girls around? Have you not seen that Chinese people come out of China because of the bad policy?
The starvation, death, wars and all these mass level crimes were there in the world from the starting of human history because of the lust of people for more material property.
I am the third Son of a father who is the 7th child out of 7 of my grandfather and a mother who is the 4th child out of 6th of my grandmother, and we know how to share what we have between ourselves and with our neighbours.
When people grow as the only 1 or 2 of their parents, the do not learn to share things, but instead try to get everything from others.
You said that you do not want to bring another child to this hell. That indirectly says that somebody is making hell out of the world.
Come out of the library and please travel around the world by walking, by bus, or by train, or by air and see yourself how much have we humans occupied, and how vast the earth is.
If you are know the basic of agriculture, you will learn that any direct or indirect involvement of humans to control any thing will be balanced very soon by nature in some other way. Humans - your pity calculations are so bad, don't think that you are too smart to calculate and predict the end of resources while you are not yet able to completely understand your material brain itself.
Any where in the history you will not see a family dying out of hunger becuase they are more, they die out of hunger when others prevent them to eat, and others do that not because they are starving, but just because the evil in themselves.
Starvation war and hunger prevails the entire human history which did not start in the last 100 years, but for thousand or million years ago.
According to you, we should teach the story of the old man and his sons who taught them that "united we stand, divided we fall" in a different way. Perhaps, you should teach - "the less we are, the more we have, and the more lavish are we"

It is definitely a meaningful and timely discussion. As we all know population effects the prosperity and well-being of the fellow citizens of any country. And that is why developing countries like India, promotes small families as we are over populated in the region. We are doing it by educating and teachings. We wont need to enforce it by law or by punishments. It is not the democratic way of doing it. We shall continue the process of teachings and awareness and we can see the changes by looking at the young generation small familes.
ReplyDeleteKrishna Iyer's intensions are clear and to the point. But we can not enforce it by punishments. It should be condemned to the highest level. However we should do more to promote to control the population.
There is no point to use the word "kill", when we talk about the population control. There are simple and meaningfull methods to doing it. The ultimate point here is that the people should be well aware and educated on it.
We are proud to be a democratic country and are responsible to protect it as well.
