Arial Rain View

It was an amazing scene, to view the rain from the top of Nandi Hills. I was on a family picnic to Nandi hills on that afternoon. Around 6:00 pm all of a sudden they sky became cloudy and windy. People were rushing towards their car to escape from the rain and this view was not noticed by many in the rush. The rain that you see in the above pictures was approaching the hill and after a short while of 10 minutes it reached and rained violently for an hour.

Crepuscular rays

Crepuscular rays!!! We always see them, but may not notice the wonder of the nature. It makes us believe that sun is much much close than it is. We may even feel that the sun is just above the clouds by imagining the intersection point of these rays. The picture is from Nandi hills, a beautiful picnic place 70 kilometers away from Bangalore.

The above pictures were taken while me and my wife visited Nandi Hills along with my friend Sumod. Bee hives are common in Bangalore, not only in trees, but also in most of the tall concrete structures.

An Early Hour Ride to Nandi Hills

First of all we thought of reaching Nandi Hills by Saturday late night. But Binoy was feeling that he is going to get fever, so we wait till next day morning 3:45 am. In between we called up Nithin who also agreed to join us from near HAL by 4:15am. When we woke up at 3:45am Binoy felt OK, and we decided to go. By 4:15am we started from HSR lay out and reached Nithin’s flat and picked him. We drove in a hurry towards Nandi Hills so that we may not miss the sun rise. This is the fifth time I am visiting Nandi Hills.


We reached there by 6:00 am just in time of sun rise. Wav! The clouds were like as if we see them from a flight. The white clouds which turned yellowish and reddish in the rising Sun’s light were so low in altitude that it covered the entire low lying places, so that we felt like we were on top of a floating peak. In distance near the sun you can see hills popping up from the clouds. We had tea from the near by shops and took few snaps of the rising sun. Lot of people was already there to view the sun rise.

A monkey sitting on the edge of a projected steel structure watching the valley was of particular interest, you can see the picture above. By the time I was about to make a little close up picture of it, some mobile camera photograph enthusiast make it run of fear while taking snaps.

While we were walking near the edge of the cliff, my cameras ring near the lens hood slipped of my hand and the wind took it down the cliff. Binoy and Nithin asked me not to take risk of searching it near the cliff, but I was not ready to leave it, since I was sure, I am not going to get it separately from a shop and I was sure the ring has not gone too far. I managed to climb down a little through the cliff where the ring disappeared and after a search of 10 minutes, I got it for my relief, you can see the picture above of me searching for it, taken by Binoy.

We left the place around 6:30 as we had to attend the Sunday mass and reached back Bangalore by 8:30 and had our breakfast from a mallu mess. (Puttum Kadalayum).

A bike trip to Nandi hills (Near Bangalore).

We planned everything all of a sudden. After the lunch, I was thinking about how to spend the rest of the day. My cousin brother Ajeev was with me. We decided to have a bike trip to Nandi hills. We went back home to get the camera, filled enough petrol and started the ride around 3:00 pm. From Banashankari, we went to Majestic, then reached Mekhri circle, from their, took the Bellari road. After riding almost 50 kilometers, we had some soft drinks, then took a left turn to the road which leads to Nandi hills. We reached there by 5:30 pm.

The ride through the curved road up the hills with lots of hair-pin-bends was too exciting. Both sides of the road were covered with a kind of plant with beautiful yellow flowers. As we went up the mountain, the atmosphere temperature decreased in a sudden pace. The climate was entirely different at the top. We parked the bike, took the ticket at the entry point, and walked up through the steps. Dense trees and climbers made a beautiful passage up the hill. There was a place like a small children's park with swings and other kind of structures. We climbed further and reached the topmost part. There was a small temple (Yoganandishwara temple), one hotel, a police out station and some other buildings at the top of the hill. Nandi hills were Tipu Sultan's summer retreat and Tipu's fort walls still stand as testimony to history. The rivers Pennar, Palar and Arkavati originate from these hills.

We went to the other side of the temple. The view of the valley and the sunset was very beautiful from the rocks. We got a bird’s eye view of Kolar, Tumkur and Bangalore area. Unfortunately the battery was low, so we could capture only few snaps from the location. One side of the mountain was too steep and dangerous. The valley was full of rich vegetation with coconut trees, vineyards and small lakes and ponds. The wind blowing up from the valley was too chilling and fast. We found difficult to stand against the wind. As everything was planned all of a sudden, we didn’t even have our jackets. So we were not able to stay there for long in the chilling wind. We started back at 6:00 pm, and reached home at 8:00 pm.
